Default Trans fluid question

I have a 95 300 4x4 2 stroke. The manual says that it has a gear/chain trans and needs polaris chain case lube. Since I'm not into experimenting with an expensive/hard to replace gear box,,, I went to my local dealer to get new fluid. The guy at the counter looked it up in his book and handed me AGL fluid. Will this work in my gear box or kill it? It seems very thin to me and the box seems a little noiser,,, could just be paranoia because it's a 2 stroke and their noisey by nature. Does anyone know if these 2 fluids are interchangeable or what I should use in my gearbox?

If he gave you this it is correct. There other synthetic chain case oil you can use out there as well.

I use this Shell Advance synthetic chain/gear oil

Thanks, that's the stuff that he gave me. Any idea how much it should hold? It's so thin that it's hard to see on my dipstick.

If your old oil is up to proper level, just drain it in a old motor oil bottle with measurements down the side and replace same amount with the new tranny oil.

Your manual is correct, prior to 96 graphite based chain case lube was used! I never liked the stuff! too grity and looked dirty to begin with! AGL Is suitable on all machines, pre 96 and later.
