<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Doesn't mean that its a worse deal it just means that the 550 probably is a better quality frame/tires/rims/Etc. So just stop complaining and deal with it. Otherwise switch to chinese brands and get a "good deal". </end quote></div>

I think you lost the point of the thread, It about how a Polaris 550 can cost the same as a Polaris 800.
Kinda like Dodge comming out with a new mid size Dakota pick up truck, but asking the same price for it as there Full size RAMs, or fords f-150s.
No matter how you dress up the Dakota its not ever going to be a Ram.

NO, what your saying is all that matters is displacement!
There is so much more to an ATV then simple engine displacement, if that was the case we would all be riding Artic Cats!
This whole thread makes no sense since no one here has rode one yet! Go out and get some riding experience on a 550 XP and if your still disappointed THEN your opinion will be somewhat validated

Note: The reason the Japanese machines have lighter/less agressive tires is to help keep the weight down while shiping overseas from Japan!</end quote></div>
In my experience, having brought product over from China, the weight is not near as important as the volume. If you can fill a container to the brim, the weight does not really matter, the greatest proportion of the charges are for the container itself. The ships carry a limited number of containers, while their weight capacity is virtually unlimited.

We recently bought a new fridge...same brands, they were the same price but one was bigger and seemed to have the same features...we bought the smaller one as we liked the layout better...choices.
I recently bought a new outboard, could have bought more HP for the same price, didn't like the tiller controls and the trolling speed. I opted for less HP but got what I wanted and the options...choices.
I recently bought a new high end Abu Garcia reel, could have bought the bigger line capacity and size for the same price...I opted for the smaller reel...choices.
We just bought a new Camry, the 4 cyl and 6 cyl were the same price, loaded, we bought the smaller 4 cyl...choices, what works best for YOU??
I can go out and buy a brand new car for the same price as a brand new truck...why?? Obviously gas prices are dictating it but still... The same brands, the truck has a much bigger motor. No question the truck cost more to produce.
If were going out to buy a new popo and my choices were the 550 and 800...I don't want, need or care for a 800. I have absolutly no use for the extra weight and HP of the 800. I'd have to drive them both but I may very well opt for the 550?? Choices.
So much more goes in to the price than size, HP, displacement. I'm sure much of the off set in price is R+D. If the manufacturer puts more in to R+D on the 550 than the 800 it's going to bring the prices closer together...

I'm not a polaris "rep" but I have driven the XP, both of them, they look a bit different, which will take some getting used to but they will sure kick the crap out of their older brothers.
That 550 holds a serious candle to my 800, not BSing, it won't beat it but it wants to.

Some of you people must have disposable incomes or something. It's thoughts like that, that allow these muti-million dollar companies to continue to raise prices and beat us out of every penny we have. If they would drop the price on all their machines most of us would spend the money we saved on accessories that are also drastically overpriced. I'm not getting into a little kid bickering match here but I agree with TLC they do not need to be so expensive. These companys and dealers are making a killing no matter what you or they say.
