What should the compression be?

At least 100psi to start 120 psi to run decent

Default Polaris Scrambler 400 starting problems

That's it..... When I bought a overbore piston it seemed loose but the guy insisted that it was the right size.... That has got to be the reason.

Default Polaris Scrambler 400 starting problems

there should be no more than .003 clearance between the piston and cylinder at any point.This is the max it can be.
