Debating on a Sportsman 500 but.....? or a Yamaha Grizzly..
When I was looking to buy an ATV I thought the one I wanted was the 700Griz. thenI started looking at the Polaris models and they just seemed like they were a stronger, more thought out machine than the Yamaha.
I like the size of the Polaris it's bigger. I don't want to feel like I'm on a small bike.
The Popo is heavier, IMO built tougher, more steel.
AWD is a definite plus on the Popo side.
American made!
I was still torn (I liked the Griz!)
Then Polaris came out with the XP models. IMO the best quad on the market.
My local Polaris dealer IMO is better than the Yamaha dealer.
That was it! I was sold on the Polaris!
Yamaha IMO has some catching up to do and when you do buy one you are supporting a company that is not American. And in this economy we all need to remember that.

OK so it`s an old thread but I could`nt resist throwing in My 2 bits worth.
I borroew My sisters 400 Yamer and used it for two icefishing excursions and it seemed all right.
I was looking for a 4 weeler and a deal came open on a 05 sportsman 400 so I made the trade.
Both machines are carbed.
What a difference!!!!
The Polaris has more power and rides much better.I never have had any problems with the Polaris and it starts good even after sitting on the ice over night at around zero deg.
I had to take it in to get the electronic module replaced under a recall and that is the only time it has been in the shop.
I love My Polaris and would never buy another brand of machine.
AAAANNNNDDDD it is AMERICAN MADE by an AMERICAN COMPANY and that means My dollars stay on AMERICAN SOIL.

Here are two Utility reviews with a 500 Sportsman and 450 Grizzly (and others) in them.
Utility ATV shootout # 1
Shootout # 2
Really can,t compare a 450 with the 500.

I had the grizzly 660, loved the bike, hated the shop and soon after the company. last october a polaris dealer talked me into an 07 500 deluxe. It has the adc. November I went back and picked up an 08 800 sportsman. I have not had to bring these 2 in for anything yet but the dealer has given me quite a discount on accessories after already paying for the machines.
