1994 POLARIS 300 4X4 2 STROKE STARTING PROBLEM

Here's another one for you Polaris Wizards. I finally got the new piston and rings in and it runs great. A while back (2 years) it started acting funny when starting. I put a new starter, starter selenoid, and bendix in and it still acts wierd. Sometimes it will start but most times you have to pull the starter rope. It has a new battery and checking it it is reading 12.5 volts. If I hook to the charger on the starter boost (55 amps) it will usually start. What's up with that! CDI, Voltage Rectifier, Short in system?

CHECK that battery connections and ground wire to motor TIGHT. If having to have a boost, this is one thing that could cause it. Also have had NEW batteries not good straight out of box. Load test battery if possible, one way to eliminate if this is problem. Magnetic triggered ignition on older models, can pull start WITH bad or even NO battery! Not advisable, will pop bulbs. CAN show GOOD voltage,BUT amperage can be insufficent to electric start if faulty. CONNECTIONS or BATTERY only thing can think of at this time. Good luck
