My New ATV Was Stolen

Well, better late than never JF.
Definitely talk to the insurance company. Heck, they might give you a great deal just so they don't have to send an agent to look at it, and pay the impound fees.

The adjustor said they normally don't let people buy them back but he'll ask his boss if I can. He said he'll call back today, but most likely it's going to auction. I think he said they send them all to Cincinnati which is 300 miles away.

Congrats JF, maybe some retribution here. I would prosecute to the full extent of the law.
Get a good lawyer. Yea, is there any concept out there for the grief/stress/drama of dealing
with stolen goods and suffering loss much like the PAIN and SUFFERING if you are in an accident.
If not a small payout from the insurance co. maybe something along the line of a great deal and
you have first bid on your stolen gem? Ahhh probably only in a pipe dream, but you never know,
I would make the case.
If I may make another suggestion JF as if you are any short in this thread, LOL. On top of your
layers of security do you have any cover for your bike, like out of sight and out of mind, even if
its like a small crate sized shed over your bike to just fit it and nothing else. At to finish my reply,
I hope justice is served here and they (police/law) make the punishment fit the crime!

Sorry to hear of your streak of bad luck, jumbofrank We had our '08 Grizz 450 and '08 Sportsman 400 stolen a couple of weeks ago.
They took the trailer too but abandoned it on a street in Denver. I had to pay $160 to get my empty trailer back.
I've got insurance. Can I ask what kind of ATV did you have? Yours was only 2 months old but you have to add another $2000 to get a new one? I wonder how much my insurance will pay.
My trailer had a hitch lock on it that left no room to get bolt cutters into the bolt part. I thought that was good. They cut the body of the lock and left it laying there. I bet they cut it faster than I could have opened it with the key.
I'm surprised they cut your chain because the padlock only requires one cut and the chain takes 2 cuts.
Anything that can be cut with bolt cutters is just plain easy for them.
I put a pipe thru my trailer axle wheels. If you have the right tools, you can get it off but I don't think the favorite thief tool (bolt cutters) will work on it.
They may not have the right tools for it and even if they do, it'll take them longer and they'll make more noise getting it off.
I also don't think the cops really care about my ATV theft, altho Lakewood police set up a sting about 2 years ago. They put a trailerwith an ATV on the side of the road and watched it. 4 hrs later they struck and followed it to within a mile of where my trailer was found.
Anyway they found 4 stolen ATVs and 2 trailers. 4 Mexican guys were arrested and were also being held for suspicion of being here illegaly. (well duh)
The news did'nt follow it anymore and only gave the stret name where the ATVs were found. Probably to protect the thieves, oops, I mean the innocent.

I tend to agree with max49 that the cops really don't care who stole the ATV. In fact, I wonder why they even bothered to call JF to let him know they recovered it! I mean why bother!?
I do like Lobos's idea with the big mean protective dog. It's common knowledge that theifs avoid the properties with the big barking dogs BECAUSE they don't want to get BIT!
Just the thought of Lobos's GermanShepard taking a bite out-of a leg, arm, or A$$ sends shivvers up most people's spines!LOL!!!
BTW, I would never want the ATV back. I'm quite sure it's been trashed and beat-on to the Nth degree! Do you guys really think it's been well-cared for for the past month and a half? LOL!
I like your security..................BUT wouldn't be so descriptive on how it's secured! Afterall, you're on the internet! Your theif could be reading your post right now! (kind-of creepy to think about BUT possibly true)
Good luck with your new one JF.

I probably missed it, but how and where did the cops find the ATV?
Did they also find the thief? I'm assuming not.
I'd be surprised if the cops really investigated and found the ATV. Much more likely that the thief just gave it back; ie just left it some where.
I would like to get mine back, they did'nt trash my trailer before they abandoned it, probably smart of them because the trailer could have made it easier to catch them.
I have a feeling my ATV's are'nt in Colorado any more, more likely in Mexico.
I'd also like to know what insurance co Jumbo Frank has ( I have progressive)and what they want from him to buy the ATV back. Probably as much as they gave him.

I have Progressive. I had sense enough to lower my deductible to $100 and since it (08 blue Sportsman 500 EFI with alloy rims) was brand new I got a fair settlement. They pay whatever NADA says it's worth plus all the accessories that I can prove I had. I'm not posting all of the details of my security and haven't even told my friends and family everything. I only described the stuff that anyone that comes by here can see at a glance. It's all the other stuff that isn't so obvious that will probably bring the total up to around $2,000. The cops must not have caught anyone or else I'd be going to court. Or Progressive would since I signed over the title. They weren't even supposed let me look at it in the impound lot. It doesn't matter how I try to hide my quad, the same people must keep coming back. I had it behind my house with my truck parked next to it. There was a house, shed, truck, and 6' privacy fence blocking the view in all 4 directions. They just came and took it anyway.
