Default My New ATV Was Stolen

quote from JUMBOFRANK
Oh yeah, I know my ATV wouldn't have been stolen if I didn't have one, so it's my fault for owning it in the first place. I just let it happen. Everyone else keep that in mind if someone steals your ATV or car, breaks into you house, kills your dog, or rapes your wife. It's your fault if you have any of those, and just let it happen.</end quote>

Its getting rediculous.

You post on a public forum about your 5 stolen quads. Some agree with you on what you say and some dont. That is how it works. All the post are not going to be in your favor, deal with it or dont tell about your problems.

It was alright with me until you compared someone stealing your ATV to someone raping your wife. Come on man, that isnt even close.

Fix your problem, do something different and be quiet.

get some 1" or larger hardened logging chain or ship anchor chain. Heavy as all hell, but no hand held bolt cutter will work. They will need a grinder and quite some time to cut thru that chain. I'd cement 4 large d rings and tie off from 4 different locations. Make them have to cut at 4 points, and as big as you can get. They'll more than likely move on to an easier grab.

A lock and chain only keep an honest man honest</end quote>

I feel a little better knowing I'm on the right track. On the middle anchor I had the screw on a huge D shackle welded tight inside the eye bolt and attached to the 72"x 27mm steel braided Trimax locking cable. One more like this one! The other 4 anchor points are the Kryptonite's 5/8' and 3/4" in differening lengths..

There you go JF, I think these guys are on to something here. Now if you do this and look into some type of very loud audible device that is activated by motion of the device or by motion in the vacinity of the device it may alert you to said thefts. You would have to find one that could be hidden on the quad, maybe a motion activated one in the airbox or, velcroed to a side panel. If you go this route think about it and do not test it when the neighbor is home so he doesnt know you have it or he'll just disable it and steal your **** again. With a little redneck ingenuity you should be able to outsmart these guys. They have beat you 5 times so you'll have to win eventually.

You have got many excellent suggestions, now it is up to YOU to put them to work. Just don't buy another quad and do the same damn thing you been doin, even for 10 minutes cause you know what's gonna happen. Do it and do it right this time.

Hey Frank,
I'm sorry to hear some scumbag stole your ATV. I had one stolen back in 05' still stings. Had two masterlock cable locks on it didn't take them long to get them cut off.
Wood chipper sounds like a mess, I was thinking more like
"Hang em' like a horse thief".

Thanks for the links mtnhkr. THAT'S what I've been looking for the last few months but couldn't find anything that good. I just have to ask them if the chain or lock can be shattered after it's frozen with freon. Most thieves know things can be broken that way. I think the 12' chain is long enough to go through 3 wheels or 2 on opposite corners. That would be hard to drag away. I can do that or chain it to my truck until I get a big anchor recessed into the concrete where I don't slam into it with the plow. Maybe two chains through the frame would be better. I never imagined it would cost half of my pension check to lock up my ATV.

They're ripping off ATV dealers too and the alarms and cameras don't stop them so I haven't bought any. I need to physically stop them. A camera might help identify them if they don't know I have it and wear masks, and they've been arrested before and the cops know them by sight. I could probably hear an alarm if I'm not in bed, where I use a fan to help cover the noise of my neighbor 10 feet away going in and out with a wrecker all night.

I got ripped off 4 times and I'm trying not to make it 5 times. After never having any problems at all for years and years I expected it to stay that way. I was surprised when they stole both of my ATVs at once, because stuff like that just didn't happen in this part of town. When it happened again they caught the thief riding it and locked him up. I thought my problems were over but kept it chained up just in case. That didn't work because the chain was too skinny. I used a bigger chain this time and it still didn't stop them. If the hardened security chain doesn't work I'm screwed. I feel like I'm running out of options.

Guess what the cops found after a month and a half? My new ATV that isn't mine anymore because the insurance company already paid me for it. They didn't say where they found it or if any arrests were made. They just called to tell me my Polaris snowmobile or ATV, or whatever it was, had been recovered. Government efficiency at it's finest. I went to the main police station and they said it was blue so I knew it was the '08. I saw it at the impound lot and didn't get a good look but it seemed okay except for the bent brushguard and a few minor things. It should fetch a good price at auction.

I have a humongous padlock with a built-in alarm, and a huge high strength security chain. Neither can be cut with hand tools like regular bolt cutters. They can't be frozen with freon and broken either. I plan on putting a big ground anchor in a solid block of concrete two feet down in my concrete driveway to chain it to. I have two wheels locks and when I put them on my new ATV it can't be rolled away even if they bring an oxy-acetylene torch to cut the lock or chain. I'll be adding more security that I'm not describing here so it will be a surprise.

After spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on security, if the next one gets stolen and someone says it's my fault... I'll exchange harsh words with you since that's all I can do without paying you a visit.

F**KIN A - Jumbo you ought to see if you can buy it back from the Ins. Co. before it goes up for auction, maybe it could be had for a few hundred - 500. or so would be great, no? Then just run that till you get your new place so "IF" something happens to it its no big $ loss.

I'm on disability and I ride, wifes on disability and she rides
We're disabled, not dead

I'm not going to go on a tangent here, wouldn't do no good anyways

People make do with what they have, just because you have more with more options, doesn't give you the right to be self-rightous with others who aren't so fortunate
