Wow. Very Sad. People will steal anything, given the chance.

After having one ATV stolen,

has it occurred to you that maybe you shouldn't leave it sitting outside?

It's dumb to leave an expensive ATV sitting around outside.

That's just asking for it to dissapear. Sad but true.

If somebody wants to steal it, than they will regardless of what you do.</end quote></div>

Well it won't fit through the door of my house so I have to keep it outside. It WOULD BE dumb to leave it out there if I had a garage. But not as dumb as leaving a car that costs 5 times as much outside. I bet most people here are guilty of leaving a car outside. They're just asking for their car to disappear. That's really dumb, huh?</end quote></div>

It wasn't meant to be harsh.

It's reality. Sorry you feel that way.

Sorry you lost your ride, but it IS your fault.

It's really dumb to keep a Quad outside if you already lost 2 or 3 of them.

I mean...what do you expect?? That's life.

It's like throwing cash on the ground and expecting it to be there when you return.

How many people here leave their toys outside in an urban environment??

Some people are NOT honest. Some people just don't know right from wrong.

Sad that it is that way, but that's the way things are.

Maybe build a garage or a shed, buy an enclosed trailer, or take the tires off?

Rent a garage to keep it in? Put a boot on it?? There are solutions.

Yes....as someone already said, if someone wants it,

it will get stolen.

You can afford a quad, but not somewhere to put it?

You're on Disability, and ride a quad?? Interesting.

Nope. I park my truck in the garage every night for the same reason.

Point is...If you know it's going to get stolen why leave it there??

BTW, They caught the guy here in Central New York who stole the Manhole covers in Syracuse. He was charged with Grand Theft, Criminal Mischief, and Reckless Endangerment and is looking at 20 years. [img][/img]</end quote></div>

My driveway and my neighbor's are like one big driveway that goes from one house to the other so there's no yard to blow snow in with a snowblower. I had a snowblower but sold it since there's no place to blow all the snow. I'm physically unable to shovel snow and no one will do it for me so I need a vehicle to plow my driveway and sidewalk. My disability doesn't stop me from sitting on my ***, therefore I can ride an ATV as long as i take it easy. And if I don't buy an ATV so I can have a little bit of fun riding throughout the year, I have to buy a garden tractor with a blade and park it in my driveway. <u>I have to be able to keep it at my house at least during the winter even if I store it elsewhere.</u>

What part of "I can't afford to build a garage" do you not understand? I don't have money to spend on an enclosed trailer that will likey get stolen and sold for scrap metal either. I know people that have had trailers stolen too. And <u>lots of people</u> around town leave ATVs outside without them getting stolen. I did too until 2 years ago. It's not like they've been stealing them for 10 years or for my whole life. It's just recently. I left it parked in the same place without chaining it up for years and years and no one touched it. And I've already been told that ATVs are stolen even with the wheels off. They just drag them away or bring their own wheels. If you have tons of money and want to build me a garage for free, great. If not, then get off my *** about it. I'm spending all the money I managed to save in the last 25 years to get this place ready to sell so I can get out of here.

Man that sucks.
On the next one buy a couple of them battery powered motion sensor alarms (like 50-$100). I've been thinking about getting one for my shed.

Good luck with everything and hope you had insurance.

man that really sucks . i'm with you pull the finger nails out one at atime..let me ask where do you live . i'm new to the site and haven't seen any of your past post about stuff getting stolen..garage or not if they want it they will find away to get it. i just cant beleive @ 6:30 in the morning thats ballsy.

i new a guy who just spend thousands on his gsxr 750 chromed half the bike etc.etc. had it locked to a bar witch was on the ground sunk in 2 ft of cement.. the bastards used his torch ,cut the rod opened the garage dooor and rolled it over his wifes car..now this happened in a town in nj where the houses are about 15 ft apart and nobdy seen anything

man i 'm real sorry.</end quote></div>

I live in the city that ranked as the worst place to live in the whole country, Fint, MI. I've talked to several people who have had things stolen out of garages. Sometimes instead of just stealing an ATV, they load all your tools into your truck and drive off with damn near everything you own. They have all the time in the world to do it since no one can see them until they open the door and leave. Sometimes having a garage is a lot worse, but I would still have one if I had room for one and the money to have it built. I can't swing a hammer very long with arthritis in both shoulders so I would have to pay someone to build it for me.

Here's my Top 10 list of things that won't stop a professional thief, but will help if someone hasn't singled you out to be a victim:

1. Keep it in a shed. (They get broken into.)
2. Keep it in a garage. (See above.)
3. Keep it at someone else's house.
4. Get motion sensor lights (So they can see what they're doing. Been there, done that.)
5. Have your neighbors watch out for you.
6. Get a dog. (Mine never hears anything that I don't.)
7. Take the wheels off.
8. Keep it in an enclosed trailer. (To make it easier to steal?)
9. Get an alarm.
10. Chain it to a post that's pounded 4 feet into the ground. (Did this for a year.)

There are a lot more but these are the first 10 I thought of. NOTHING will stop a determined thief, especially if it's your drug-dealer neighbor with a tilt-bed wrecker, and his customers. I'm not sure if it's him or not but he's the only person I have a problem with and he drives a wrecker, and these things aren't walking away on their own. Powersports dealers all around are getting ripped off constantly and they have security cameras and alarms, so I know that doesn't work. These are professional thieves and even professional security doesn't stop them.

Hey WildWest I was thinking of putting a sensor on my shed doors and putting an audible alarm in my bedroom. I want to make it so you can shut it off in the bedroom while I'm home or whatever and turning it on at night. I also want to design it so that if they would cut the wires going from the shed to the house it would also trigger the alarm. If you wanted to get further in depth with it you could also get a camera video or still, and put it in the shed to go off on motion or whenever the buzzer is activated. My dads buddy used to be in the alarm business and he told me of some components so I'm waiting to get back to work and purchase the supplies. I will PM you the setup when I finally get around to doing it. It will be awhile but when I do I will let you know what you need and the cost. Until then if you come up with something good and cheap let me know I'd appreciate it.

JF werent you saying you wished you'd waited once you found out about the 09's? Well maybe your wish came true just dont tell the insurance company or they may start thinking somethings fishy with 5 of them getting stolen.

Like the rest say, sorry to here that it was stolen. I hate theives with a passion
and even got blood from one. they stole my radio system out of my truck, twice, so I got mad.. B ought another system and used aquarium silocom to glue single edge razor blades all around the back, so when they grabbed that one blood was everywhere.. Radio was laying on the floor of the truck.

Now, back to you, set them up Frank. Camera's are much cheeper now than they used to be. Also agree on the tripwire going to a very loud alarm. Must say I like the bear trap idea too, but guessing its not the theif that would step on it..mabe not.

how ever u do it, set them upto get caught.....theives are typically very lazy and take short cuts. But they WILL be back till you catch them...If I didn,t live so far away I,d love to help... If I think of any really good ideas i'll let you know..

No. I had to have something to ride when I went on a 3-week+ vacation for the 4th of July. So I got my new quad the last week of June and left. I didn't want to trade it in until the XPs were out for a year or two to get the bugs worked out.

gonna express an opinion on this topic. Just with you experience its making
me think more and more of my security so maybe theres more good we
all learn from this.
