i notice thats some guys have what looks like a hole cut in their grill for the fair lead to stick out. now did you buy it the way or did you have to cut the old grill.? i figure you had to but it because if you cut it it would look stupid saying pola..any whats the scoop?

 

You can get one from the dealer with the hole cut in it already. It snaps right on.

 

Yea and it liks only $5 not bad. There are some on here that cut their own with the
from the original full panel if you still have that from the winch install unless it was
bought that way?

My winch came with a template to cut the panel with but I just left the panel off. I agree, I think it looks goofy with half of the word Polaris missing. I was also concerned about how much room it would leave me to reach in and kick the winch in and out of neutral.

 

My plastic panel had the whole word POLARIS on it, not just POLA, but I made it 1/2" - 3/4" wider on one side to make it easy to get my big fat fingers on the clutch ****. They must move the word Polaris on the panels that are made for winch use.

As said above you can order it. I got mine from cheapcyclparts.com. When you go to the parts breakdown it is near the bottom under "options,winch".
For an 2008 500 EFI:

Hey, Highoctane, do you have a pic of yours? I bought a Polaris/Warn 3k lb winch and installed it over the weekend. The shop took a faceplate off of one they had on the floor but it doesn't fit. Seeing as how you have a 3.5k lb winch I wonder if it will fit mine.

I'll try to get you a pic, but if it is a Polaris winch the Polaris piece should work fine. I even have enough room too reach in and actuate the free spool lever.

 

i left mine right off so i could still use the free spool clutch and its easier access to the radaitor for cleaning w/ the p. washer. imo.

 

The dealer I bought the cover from said it works fine for the 2.5k lb winch but the 3k sits a hair off to one side. He wasn't sure it would fit. It doesn't.
