I'm an aftermarket wheel virgin too. Everything I know is from hearing other people guess about it. I haven't seen a side by side comparison done by anyone yet. But you have 1" less tire between the wheel and the ground on the 14" diameter wheels. I don't think it would be as good on bumps because there's less tire to cushion the impact. It could be more stable. I doubt if the traction would be much different. It's all about looks, not performance, like putting 22s on a pickup.

 

Ya, if you look at ITP's write-up of thier own Mud lite XTR Radial they rate the 14" tire as a better handling tire than the one in 12" wide rims. More exactly...

"Two diameters provide you with the ability to tailor a tire choice to your specific riding requirements. The 12-inch option is ideal for primarily muddy conditions, offering better flex and more flotation. The revolutionary 14-inch model is an excellent all-around trail/mud choice, with its lower-profile sidewall resulting in reduced flex and a dramatic improvement in handling and rider confidence."


I wouldn't think this to be true for every other 12" versus 14" tire. I like more rubber than rim anyways. Thats why I wear 40x13.5x16's IROKS in my truck.

Thanks for the honesty. I was lookin at em thinking I might be goin too agressive w/ the 589's. I know its mostly a tradeoff. But I do want something for M/S than anything else. I see how many ppls like em. They must have something goin for em. I'll bet your just a little pissed that they weren't better in the mud. Again, thanks for the feedback.

 

Are we talking Mudlites or something else? I hadn't heard too anything to the contrary,
I understand that the Mudlites are one of the better MUD tires.

Just so you know, my previous post was inntended to be a joke, these tires are really good in the slop, and don't hop at high speeds.
