2000 Xplorer CV joint boots
I have a 2000 Xplorer 250 that I just bought and after I got it home noticed that both rubber boots around what I assume are something like CV joints are torn. I was wondering if these are expensive and how hard they are to replace. I am fairly mechanically oriented if you don't count carburetors.

OEM boot kits a little over 30 bucks, check around can usually find a little cheaper. BEST to have a manual or have diagram of front strut assy and hub assy, since awd involved. Axle nut torque 144 inch pounds (12 foot pounds) NOT that difficult If armed with a little info before tackling boots! Good luck

Thanks for the reply.
I read some threads about CV boot clamp pliers. Other than that (and torque wrench) any special tools required? I'll have to track down a manual as well. Probably not adviced to put many miles on it until these are replaced. The machines main purpose is going to be for pulling ice fishing gear this winter.

BORROW or buy pinch type cv pliers and wont have to cuss when you brake a clamp! Some have used needle nose pliers, but EASIER with correct tools! This is about only special tool needed. Cv just knocks off drive shaft and use a deadblow hammer or block of wood and hammer to knock back on. Manual will explain. MAY have to use a little LOVE tap to remove a-arm from ball joint. Good luck
