I had a different ATV that used 0W-40 too, but the original poster's manual for his <u>'08 Sportsman 500</u> probably says the same thing as my manual for an <u>'08 Sportsman 500</u>, 2W-50 only. It doesn't matter what oil other years and models take if that's what his is suppossed to have.

Then why does the manual for my 500 say 2W-50 only?

The OPs ATV is an '08. Not an older one.

 

The owners manual I got with my bike says 0w40 but the $100 manual I bought from the dealer says 2w50 . Looking at my bottles from the oil change kit no where does it tell you what oil you have . I'm switching over to 0w40 Amsoil after my Polaris supply is done . 08 500HO carb

 

i use lucas oil stabilizer so i use a well known brand full synthetic.four $s a quart....
