Does anyone out there have any experience in by-passing an oil pump on a 2000 Polaris Explorer 400 two-cycle? I have a leak in the oil line from this pump, so I need to at least replace this line anyway, but have heard that these pumps are notorious for failing and causing engine seizer. I don't like the sound of that, so I am wondering if it would just be better to by-pass this oil pump and pre-mix my gas with 2-cyle engine oil.

I know I could probably just plug the oil line from this pump, but would like to have the option of reverting this quad back to an oil injection if I am ever to sell it, so I don't want to screw up the pump.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forums mmullin. I agree with Dan. From what I've read the failures seem to be 1 in 1,000, if that. It doesn't happen all the time but if it happens once EVERYONE hears about it.

 

They aren't notorious or prone to failure, fix the issue and trust the injection.
