Default 04 SPortsman 700

have a 04 Sportsman 700 (non-EFI) can recall last season, hearing "clicking" sounds from front (kinds sounded like driveshaft or U-joint), noticed AWD would not engage this yr, being an electricain, troubleshooted, AWD switch checked out good, 24ohm coil had 27.6 ohms across leads going into front casing, had 12.6 v. going into switch from harness, but only 8.76 v from plugin to AWD coil, does any one know what is the required voltage for this coil to engage? i noticed a Diode symbol on Schmatic @ switch assembly, does that diode ensure polarity or is it acting as resistor and regulating voltage going to coil?
