Default auto or stick trans best for sand dunes ?

Just wondering which works the best in riding the sand dunes, a auto trans or stick? Pro/con ? Both of ours are auto, 425 and 325, but the kids have stick 250 cc. Altho theirs are smaller cc's, they beat our **** up to the top every time. I like the convience of having the auto, but getting tired of getting beat all the time :-) Maybe it's time to get a larger bike with stick trans so I can keep up !

A manual works great in the dunes with alot less tweaking to mess with, especially with the smaller cc's BUT a finely tuned auto works great, too. Stock clutching on what you are riding won't work very well plus it's probably over working the belt and getting hot causing slippage. There are so many variables on the clutches, weights, springs, helix's and don't forget the secondary clutch. I'm sure someone here will direct you to a performance shop or even the correct springs to start with.

weight to power ratio comes into play there.... you get on a manual tranny 250 and they will still smoke you up the dune. I have a scammy 500 and a banshee both of which have been out on the dunes, and i cant honestly compare the 2 because it wouldnt be a fair comparison. The scrammy would get smoked. It is nice just cruise around the dunes once in awhile and not worry about shifting but if i had to choose between the 2 i wouldnt even bat an eye i would def take the shee. You could change your springs and weights and get yourself a more powerful launch and quicker acceleration. It basically comes down too, will you be happier with a better quad for riding the dunes and spending a ton of money or making minor adjustments to make your quad more suitable for the dunes and spend a ton less money?

Either way you still gotta let the kids beat ya to the top once in awhile.
