i just got a sportsman 800x2 had 36 hours on it and my prob. is every time i hit that gas hard it will smoke white blueish like oil. i thought maybe little to much oil then i put on about 2hrs. looked at the oil it is low just up to the first hole in the dip stick little less. i did do a comp. test on it before and both are about 145ish. also now too the overflow bottle has nothing in it the rad is full tho.

WHAT DOES THE EXHAUST SMELL LIKE? OIL OR SWEET LIKE ANTIFREEZE? DOES YOUR OIL LOOK GREYISH? FIND A GOOD LIGHT WHITE ANTIFREEZE--BLUE OIL BURNING..........

 

the exhaust smells like oil more then anything. the oil does not seem to have water in it and the antifreeze is hard to tell but seems to be just the right color

 

well first off, what year is your machine?
While it isn't completely unusual, 36 Hrs isn't a lot of hours for a used machine so it naturally draws attention right away, did this bike see some abuse by the previous owner?
I am guessing that you are burning oil and not coolant...According to the 800 manual I have here the compression test should be 150-200, so it is on the low side but in the ball park...does it idle smoothly?

Start simple first, it's the simple stuff that normally trips you up!

make sure the air filter is clean
check the crank case vent to make sure it is clean and working
are you getting any oil in the airbox?
