Thanks a ton. I'll take a look at the wire. Are they an electric hub??. very new to this 97 Polaris Xplorer 500 - new to the Polaris world. Been riding Yamaha's for ever, but thought this Xplorer might make a good snow plow. I guess NOT with only three wheel drive....

DEMAND HUB FLUID or ATF in a pinch for the hubs. Hubs are electrical/mechanical,12 volts to hubstrut coil which pulls in armature plate ,allowing hilliard to run free in hub and lock hub when back tires slip.

On old models like that one - no electricity to hub - no 4x4. A broken wire isn't the only possibility but it's my first and best guess. It happened to another forum member and after he re-spliced the wire it worked.

When you get the 4x4 working and put it in low you'll be able to plow more snow than you thought possible. ATVs will fit on my sidewalk so I don't have to shovel it either.
