Polaris 850 XP Shootout
#31
I hope the sportsman 850 puts all the competition to shame.
Is this because I am a polaris fan? No! I"ve never owned one.
But raising the bar is just gonna make the competitors raise theirs. Which means better bikes all around, in every brand.
If Polaris has something on their bike that everybody likes. It wont be long before you see it it on the rest of the brands.
Competition just means better bikes for the consumers.
As far as the videos. They are all a joke. No one can expect an unbiased shootout when the video is shot and produced by one brand.
But I'm like the rest I still enjoy watching them.
This is just my opinion

What he is trying to say is that the video that yamaha put out claims that the 08 grizzly is "all new" then you wouldn't purchase it.... just like the "all new XP850"
BTW the fuel capacity of the XP850 is 5.25 gallons.

**Note** yes the standard XP is 5.25 but with EPS it is 4.5 gal of fuel!

I think sealed electrical connectors would be better but haven't had any problems with my wiring getting wet in 11 years of riding Polaris ATVs even when I went through about 3 feet of water several times. My lights and even my racks were under water and everything still worked without a hiccup.
</end quote></div>
That is very impressive being under 3 feet of water without a hiccup. The more that I think about it, the more I feel that I've made the right decision with going with the Sportsman. Before riding the Sportsman 800, I never liked Polaris's because of their reputation on breaking down and being heavy. I was going to buy a Brute Force 750, but seeing how much power the 800 had, and how well it handled and rode, it just had me sold. I went with the 850 because of the improvements with cooling and the other changes. Plus I like the way the XP looks and I'm getting a great deal on it.

They have a reputation (among non-Polaris riders) for not being able to go through much water too. I'm not sure if it's 3 feet but it came just over the rack. There was no belt slippage that Honda people swear all CVTs especially Polaris will have. If you get the gas tank under water you are SO SCREWED because the airbox and clutch will both fill with water. But if you go slow and don't splash it will go through <u>a lot</u> of water. I don't go through deep water very often because I don't like having to re-grease everything after a ride. But when one of my Sportsmans went through the ice on a beaver pond I drove right across like I was on a coast guard ice breaker. I even had my Trailblazer in water up to my butt and only got stuck when it slipped sideways into some ruts and framed out.

Topic should have said Polaris 850 XP "<u><span class="FTHighlightFont">Advertisement</span ft></u>" rather than shootout.

Is it possible Yamaha Nation is struggling to find faults with the new XP? LOL. The only thing the competition has left to complain about is the weight. How's this, remove the Grizz's cheap plastic skid plate, add steel from front to back, add decent 26" tires, 14" wheels and then tell me how much the Grizz will weigh. Some will say throwing a 600 pound quad around all day is easier than a 780 pound quad. First of all, you must be one superhuman man of steel if you can "throw around" a 600 pound quad, and secondly the ride you'll get from the XP (780 pound quad) will make it much easier for me to ride all day. I've got news for you, there all heavy, and you're not pushing any of them out of a deep mud hole by hand.
The Grizzly is a fine machine, they all are, but quit grasping for straws. The Grizzly's title is in serious jeopardy, will be real interesting to hear the conspiracy theories of the competition when the official verdict is in! LOL</end quote></div>
You have obviously never riddin a new grizzly all day. It is hands down the most comfortable atv i have ever riddin!!!

No, but I test drove a new 08 grizzly back to back with the Polaris and the Yamaha didn't compare. Have you ever "riddin" a new Polaris all day? Obviously not, and like most Yamaha diehards, unless you remove your Yamaha goggles you'll never admit to it being what it is.... INFERIOR. Oh I forgot, the Grizzly has EPS.. who cares, are you a man or a woman! Oh, and I beleive Polaris has EPS now as well, still won't be buying it as an option. Solicit an opinion from an unbiased Yamaha rider and they all say the same, the ride is way too stiff, has no power and simply does not compare. Once again, the only thing Yamaha Nation can find fault with now is that the Sportmans are too heavy... blah blah blah. Yamaha uses cheap japanese tires & wheels and plastic skid plates to keep the weight down, add real skid plates, 26" tires, 14" wheels, an 850 cc twin cylinder engine with some actual power, and then tell me how heavy it will be.... add 150 pounds extra, MINIMUM. OMG, it's as heavy as a Sportsman!!! LOL. It's hilarious to hear Yamaha diehards come in and spout off when they know they have an inferior product. Bottom line the Grizzly is inferior to the OLD style Sportsman, the NEW style will send Grizzly riders home sucking their thumbs.
