Default Drive tran noise

I have '02 Sportsman 700 that I let a friend use a few weeks ago. When I went ride this weekend it is making a loud high pitch whine. It happens both in high and low range. I am wondering if something might have happened to the clutch. If it had a transmission I would think to start there.

Any other thoughts?

Take the clutch cover off and jack it up securely on jack stands and run it, you should tell where the noise is coming from. It does have a tranny, thats what does the high, low, and reverse.

Good point I didn't think about the hi/low.

I'll try that tomorrow.

Thanks for the help.

i would think it would be winning in neutral as well if the clutches were an issue unless it needs to be under a load. did you check the tranny fluid to make sure it's full and does not have water in it?
