99 Xplorer 400 stalling 2 stroke
#1
Im baffled with this one. My wifes wheeler has an intermittent stalling problem. I cant make it do it. It seems to do it when it wants to, usually when we are 9 miles from camp. It seems to be a warm issue.
It seems to run fine, then all of a sudden it dies when you put it in gear. Take it out of gear, she starts and idles just fine. But as soon as you put it in gear, it acts like the fuel has been shut off. Ive replaced the fuel filter and thought I had it fixed, but it did it again yesterday. Put it on the trailer got her home, and she runs fine.
Any Ideas?

maybe the carb idle is out of adjustment. what i usually do is take the clutch cover off and run the idle up. after that i turn the idle down to where the drive clutch stops engaging the belt.
if it only does it when its warm it could be an airleak somewhere. i have found two on my 2 stroke. one was the intake boot was old and brittle eventually causing it to crack. the other was the bearings on the crank were worn out which let the crank wiggle up and down so the seals couldnt seal right.

Reverse limiter probably beginning to short out. Have had em die when shifting to reverse, and also when just about gone will die when shifting from neutral into forward. Under front panel, small black module with the only black wire on it. JUST disconnect black lead and see if solves problem. Will have full speed in reverse also . Good luck
