to clutch are not to clutch that is the question

i just bought 1994 sportsman 400. i have 4 28-12-12 outlaws. i am putting on dynoport pipe, rade valves, k&n filter, lift kit wheel spacers. changed all my sprockets up and put on did chains. i was wandering about a clutch kit. i dont want it to engage to hard with those big tires on it. i like to be able to ease through a hole if i want to. the way i understand it a clutch kit make it engage at a higher rpm. any help on this subject would be greatly appricated.

maximus,
any Polaris belt driven ATV could benifit greatly with a clutch kit, especially with monster 28' tires. The belt will really struggle with stock clutching turning them huge tires and you WANT the belt to be grabbed HARD and tight by the primary and secondary clutches, add a clutch kit!.A clutch kit will ensure that the belt does not slip while dealing with all the extra power gains and the larger tires.

Maximus,
Definately get the clutch kit you will not be disappointed. Also in case you weren't sure....there are different clutch kit applications. The clutch kit that I have for my Scrambler would not be the one recommended for your Sportsman. Regardless, aftermarket clutch kits are more finely tuned than stock clutches.

It would definately help. Whether or not you want to go that way depends on your uses.
I would suggest trying a white or possibly green primary clutch spring. Gives about 50 to 75% of the results of a full kit, but for under $20 and some wrench turning. While not as balanced for a given situation as the proper kit, it is sure hard to beat for the money. They will also help give the little extra 'grunt' you may need turning those big tires through sticky mud better.

I've got pretty much the same mods to my Xplorer and trust me the clutch kit will really wake it up! You can still ease through things with it, you just have to be alittle more carefull with the throttle. I really like my EPI kit but then agian I've never owned a different brand.
