Thanks for all the info guys. I didn't get the extended warranty (It was $1700 for 3 years) so I guess I'm gonna have to learn some maintenance tricks. I'll be able to do all the minor stuff, but anything too major i'll have to take to a shop. I'm not too worried about that in the meantime, it's just something I have to keep in mind. I'm gonna get a winch at some point, but I'm curious as to how they are installed. Are they welded on (sorry if it''s a stupid ?) or attached another way?

Hey...congrats on your '08 500!

Regarding the question on the winch...it bolts on...to a winch mounting plate...which is bolted to the machine. The instructions that come with the winch should be straight forward...for all the connections. For your machine...a 2500 lb winch will do nicely.

Hello all. New to this forum and this type of forum is just what I have been looking for.

I picked up a new 08 500efi this past year as well and love it. I never realized what these machines could really do until I hit the trails up in Maine. We went through some stuff that I would have never dreamed it would go through.

here's a link to the service manuall for you bike
also if/when you install your winch your bike is pre wired for a winch
there is a metal plate/shield for the contactor, and near that 2 wires are ziptied together with a cover that says "winch wires"
once you hook those up underneath the left rear fender there is a red wire with shrink tube over it (yellow I think), and you need to hook that wire up to the battery

sorry for the long post

I like this one cause you can adjust it, (bend it in all kind of ways), The the nonslip pro cost a lil more then the other one but I bought the other one and the good one and ended up giving the cheaper one away.

Thanks for all the info guys. It's nice to know that I got somewhere to ask questions to experienced riders. It's much appreciated and I will likely be ordering a thumb assist within the next week.
