My 500 will not start, when I turn the key nothing happens. My dash lights doesnt come on, my head lights want come on, when I hit the start button it acts as if your werent even pushing it. It acts like a dead battery, but the battery is strong. Before this happened I was riding it and the lights would blink on and off (headlights, and dash lights), I would then wiggle the handle bars from side to side and they would finally come back on. If I held the start button in and shook the handles bars I could get it to start from the starter. The atv will start by pulling the rope everytime, however, it will only shut off from the key, the stop button will not work. After it starts it runs great, no problems at all, just want do anything with the starter button and I have no type of lights. Someone please help me I am about to pull my hair out. Sounds like ignition switch wires possibly shorting out in harness area under pod,or switch itself bad,FIRST check for bare wires under pod causing problems,NOT a lot of fun I know! Good luck opt

 

Would this indicate if the switch would be bad...I can pull the key out weather it is on or off....I was just thinking and thought I would ask. The iginition switch cause the head lights not come on. Thanks again for all your help

 

Switch bad or wiring shorts if can pull key out and will still run! Lights could/should be a different problem,BUT as I've said with electrical anything possible! opt
