Default HELP***Dropped gas can nozzle into Sportsman gas tank

I know it sounds dumb, but the gas can nozzle snapped off and fell into my sportsman 500 gas tank. to make things worse it seems to have fallen into the fron part of the gas tank and there seems to be a wire blocking it in...any ideas on how to get it out? the damn thing doesnt float so I drained all the gas. looking for ideas...I wonder if I stand it up on the back end whether that will help??any ideas anyone?

wow thats not good luck at all. just becareful not to scew up the sending unit of fuel pump(if its efi) when your fishing in their. you may have to take the gas tank off turn turn it upside down to shake it out. imo.

Can you get a set of mechanical fingers down in there to it?
Like Sten said,be careful, that wire might be the float arm, or wires to the sending unit ect. If the fingers will reach a good set should grip a edge of the opening of the nozzle pretty well and hopefully allow you to carefully work it out. Worth a try IMO. Other than that probably removing the tank is the next step.

Thanks High...no, I dont have any sophisticated tools like that! I think I'll have to take it in to the dealer....I'm afraid that if I go to the dealer, I'll trade it in for an XP!!

You need a claw pick - up device that can reach down in there like HIGHOCTANE's pic. I purchased mine at Sears in the seventies and its saved me many a times.

Yeah most anyplace that sells tools should have them, probably most autoparts stores too. Those and a magnetic pick up tool are must haves IMO. So even if you can't get it with the tool it isn't wasted money, you will use it again, probably several times, lol.
