There seems to be no reverse gear, the lever just moves and feels like it doesn't touch anything. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this problem. Thanks ahead, Bill.

 

Take rods off tranny, shove it into reverse by hand at the tranny lever. If it goes into reverse than you know its just the rod adjuster have to be reset.

Very possible reverse actuator bad,try pulling lever on actuator on right side of transmission and see if goes into reverse.IF SO then new one needed. Have replaced a couple over the years. Good luck opt

 

ok , now I am a truck mechanic. I am unclear about what rods and tranny lever ?? There is a part you put your foot on to shift connected to a rod that goes inside the case. Thats it. Sorry about the confusion.

[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img] AGAIN,pull/ push reverse actuator lever(black box on right side of trans with small lever) to see if reverse gear engages as you push foot shift!!!!

 

I had that issue.rebuilt the carb and poof had reverse!

 

Thanks guys, it is the actuater.
