1998 400 polaris 4x4 will not go into high or reverse?
no high no reverse at all. low works fine got any ideals? linkage is working i tryed prying it back and forth with wrench it does not help. just looked at it again the motor has dropped down and the clutch has rubbed a hole in the cover i pryed the engine back and up and reverse works now but it will no go into high or low must be bad motor mounts????

Take the rods from shifter to tranny off the tranny end, grap the tranny lever with large vice grips and see if you can get all 3 gears, if so you can eliminate the tranny as the problem.
You could also take the rods off the shifter end and just grab the two rods by hand and push/pull them to see if the tranny works all 3 gears.

It's the transmission, you need to make a decision. Either have hi or reverse, I opted for reverse for plowing, now I have lo and reverse. Common issues for that vintage the forks get worn and won't hold it in hi anymore. Adjust the linkage to at least get it moving again. Good luck Doc

im pilling it off right now its acting crazy it was just hung in reverese could not get it out for nuttin so i started pulling it out i had to heat and beat the rear clutch off and now it shifts high/low and will not pop into reverese i will post the problem later today thanks

ok so i found what the problem was the high/low shift fork was broke off and jamming the gears it was jumping around and thats why one time it would hit reverse then ride it and next time only low. shift for was only $120.00 list at don and roys works fine now thanks
