Default 300 explorer

It is a 1996 300 explorer and it was running great the only reason I changed the filters is because the Air filter you couldn't even see light though it when you held a bright light right up to it. We are talking filthy as can be.

So I figured I would change the little in-line gas filter and put a pre filter on it since it didn't have one on it when I bought it. I have to say it sure sounds different with out the old dirty air filter in it but the problem is when you go to open it up it just want to fall before it takes off.

Before I changed any of the filters if you push the throttle the darn thing would take off but not now. Could it be the air/fuel mixture is messed up now? If it is how hard is it to adjust it? It didn't come with a manual but I have been looking at the one for the 1998 300 explorer and the dealer I buy parts from which is along ways away said that the 1998 is the same expect for some of the decals.

Just thought I would check with some of you Guys/Gals that have alot more experience with ATV'S than I do this is my first one. Having a blast with it but finding out it is going to take a lot of MTX.

Thanks in Adance!!

it could be that the pre filter is cutting the air off enoguh to make it run rich and fall on its face. unles someone had adjusted the air screw i wouldnt think it could be. how does the plug look? the gas filter is on the right way(arrow toward the gas flow)? you didnt get any dirt in the carb when you changed the filter? just a couple of ideas.

The Plug looks clean, I made sure I was careful about dirt in the carb. I double checked the fuel filter to make sure it was on the correct way.

I ran it a little more this afternoon and it seemed to be running some what better. Hoping to get it out to the farm tomorrow so I can give it a good test run.
