500 sportsman came out in 96 with the bst34 carb,but I think about 01 or 02 when the Bst 40 came along with the cable adjuster, I usually find the cable laying down under the carb most of the time retainer spring broken and cable usually frozen,BUT only on these two 08 models have I had the flywheel key shear! MIGHT just be a fluke,but the engineer I talked to was well aware of this happening!
