Actually the 400 ho is a 455 motor, its only 44 less cc and you won't need low range in the mini 400 ho, its plenty powerful, ask Mongrol he has a set of tracks on his, he would know if you need low range and he says it works great without...

Welcome, OldXplorer, I had one of the 250s too. It was a fun quad but I also got sick of the noise. Sounded like an angry chainsaw. I moved up to the X2 with the 500. Love it. Got lots more power and speed. I would go with a 500. I don't think you'll ever need more. Although, if you WANT more, go for it.

welcome to the best little atv forum. the 400 HO(engine 455 cc) doesnt have low range but is clutched alot differnt then the rest of the sportsmans aloowing for a deeper gearing. i used my wifes to haul a york rake around w/out any issues. the bike will do anything you want w/out worrying about l. range, imo.
