Clarification on Service Intervals.
#21
The reason you change the engine oil before storage is because it is contaiminated and contains acidic combustion byproducts...change it, run it briefly one time to circualte the clean oil and put it up..fogging does't hurt too for long term storage..then yes..run it briefly when you pull it out to allow the oil to circulate and collect internal moisture then change it again...
Your choice...but it is the best practice and not done without reason..
Rtickwad..you are correct too, that is why they have a time period on the maintenance intervals...ie 6 months 1 year ect..the fluids should be changed regardless of whether is was ran or not..some times more so..operating a machine heats it up and evaporates moisture..letting machinery(of any kind) sit unused for long periods is often harder on it than regular use..
At least starting it up and letting it get up to operating temp periodically is a good thing..especially if you haven't totally preserved it..drain fluids fogging ect..

yeah im also interested in fluids..
what all should be changed on a scrambler 400 that i just bought? its an 02 but is really clean, its either low hours, or someone just babied it.
either way im guessing i should change all fluids to be safe.
what fluids and weights do you guys recommend for my engine size?
thanks</end quote></div>
Not much fluids on a 400 Scrambler. There's no rear diff or motor oil to worry about.
All you have is the counter balance oil, tranny fluid, front diff (If 4wd) ,rad coolant and Hub fluids.
You don't change them all at the same time, the hubs fluids should be change more often than Rad coolant for instance.

i assume no fluids have ever been changed, since i have no service records.
is there a how to, or any pics, or anything on doing these things on my wheeler you can shoot me a link for?
