it does sound like a fuel pump goin bad, but it also could be that ur valves are tight too is it hard to restart after its been running??? i'd check ur valves and while ur in there check ur cam for wear the exhaust lobes get worn out on the early model four strokes. i'd also say that ur sensor is bad or ur radiator isn't venting or maybe the waterpump is causing problems

Take the plastic off the tank and clean out the vent line.
Take the radiator off and wash it out with a garden hose(no hi presure)

I'm just throwing this out as I had similar problems with my 250 Xplorer. When it got hot and stalled it would be hard restarting. I finally took it in to get looked at and they replaced the stator. It solved it for me. The thing ran like a charm afterwards. Not saying it will help your situation but it did mine.
