2000 Polaris Clutch problem?
I recently purchased a used 2000 Polaris 500 Sportsman 4X4. When I got it, it did not like coming out of low 4wd back into neutral. I was then riding it in 2wd and it made a clunk and bang sound. I stopped it and it had trouble moving. I then moved the gear selector and it wouldnt engage properly and I saw the clutch cover push out while I was selecting gears. Finally it wont engage a gear at all. Any ideas what this may be. Im pretty sure it has to be the clutch. If so, how hard is it to repair. Ive replace centrifugal clutches on go carts before. I found online schematics but not sure where to find instructions without purchasing a manual. Im new to the Polaris market having only Hondas before and never had to wrench on them.

i replaced the primary (the one bolted to the engine) on my trailboss. it took longer to get the cover off than it took to replace the clutch. be careful too. mine blew up from over reving the engine trying to get it go. granted the guy i bought it from did it, but the primary clutch blew up destroying the outer cover. you do need to buy a puller. it is around 35 shipping included on ebay. i found a used primary on ebay for 75. replace the belt too while you are in there.
