Default 2009 xp 850

hello all i am kinda new to polaris i just bought a xp 850 efi and have some questions like the book says i can only use low range up to 7 miles per hour however i saw on a website that was promoting the all new xp and stated that you could use low range up tp 34 miles per hour in 4x4 ? and ware is the belt on this thing and can it be changed out in the field? if anyone has changed there belt can you please reply and let me know how to do it i know the belt is somewhat under warrenty but i just dont feel like arguing with a dealership about that and what dose it matter if the belt breaks in the field i will have to fix it my self anywase

The belt is on the back side of the motor toward the back of the machine, its a new design, but from what I have read it can be changed in about 20 minuts with the proper tools. There is a suport bracket that is blocking access that has to be removed, and I think the wheel and tire on that side would also likely have to be removed. So I would say a field repair might be a bit tough, but possible.

Are you sure it doesn't say in the manual "Use low range BELOW 7 miles per hour"? That's what mine says for my 500.

Maybe the XP is different???????????

The belt change is easy....but I haven't tried it without pulling the left rear tire..
Basically you need to remove the bolted in frame section just forward of the left rear tire..then remove the 11 or so cover bolts and slide the cover out the left side.
The use the tool supplied in the tool kit,it is the other end of the spanner wrench, to release the driven clutch's tension on the belt and walk the belt off like you would any other CVT belt...
Doesn't take but a few tools actually and can be done pretty quick after you have done it a time or 2...

Edit-And Dave is right..use low range for extended operation below 7mph,heavy pulling ect..that is a limitation on high range useage to help keep the belt cool..
The XP will do 39 mph in low range.......tested by me..
