Default XP not trail legal?

A few years back I did a little test. ATV vs full size horse. Who do you think did more trail damage.

Default XP not trail legal?

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>[i]Chadly, What dealer was that?</end quote></div>

It was in Milton, WI. I am actually going to purchase one from East Troy Marine, as I know the owner, but I happened to be in the Janesville area and stopped by.

The guy in Milton mentioned that he knew the people at A+ in Elkhorn and I guess A+ Powersports only ordered two? I guess people buy them and use them on their land and such, but know they can't ride on the trails without a permit (which you can't get yet...)

I am blown away that the state they are even made in...Minnesota....they aren't legal there either!! (he also mentioned S. Carolina I believe)

In Mn you can register them, theres a loop hole, you can register them using the Hp instead of the CC. But in my case for some reason they registered it as a 799cc.
At the time i didn't know you could use the Hp instead. So if I get nailed im going to play stupied.

A big thanks HO! That is a valuable link you provided. Here is what NM calls an ATV...

(1) "all-terrain vehicle", which means a motor vehicle fifty inches or less in width, having an unladen dry weight of one thousand pounds or less, traveling on three or more low-pressure tires and having a seat designed to be straddled by the operator and handlebar-type steering control;

So...with that...looks like the XP 850 is good to go!

Another thing to notice on Upnort's comments is that a machine has to be 48" or less wide. If you take a 2005? and up Sportsman, X2, or Touring they are already at the 48" mark stock. Makes them nice and stable, but if you put wider tires on and they choosed to enforce the rule... Also, "a seat designed to be straddled by the operator", would rule out the RZR as being considered an ATV even though it is only 50" wide. I guess in the case of the RZR it would be two strikes and you're out.

I have seen the "straddle seat" rule enforced on some ATV trails. Bummer for the RZR riders if this rule gets more accepted.
