Can usualy do it with a small screw driver, may get someone to help tap it while you hold it apart.

I got a flat tipped reverse opening(opens when squeeze handle) needle nose pliers from the Snap-on truck and STILL had to grind down small enough to fit circlip! HAD to find something since I work on em almost daily! Makes jobs a lot easier!

My local dealer actually had pliers specifically made for those clips. The awesome guy behind the counter let me use them to fix it then return them after the job one done on my buddys 500 HO

I hit mine with a hammer....soaked it overnight and came off easily.

Have done two...one was easy to get apart the other was tough.

I use snap ring pliers to open the ring. It can be a pain but with a little luck it can be done. I think I had to hold the pliers down close to the shaft and pull on the joint at the same time.
