Default problem with my 850 XP

new here, so I just got an 09 850 xp. i have 30" mud lites on it and sometimes when I gas on it hard it feels and sounds like it comes out of gear or something. (grinding noise) coming from under me, then the tires will hook and go. any ideas of what this could be?

You need bigger tires.

Your tires are rubbing somewhere like the stabilizer bar or fenders or it could be a clutching problem because of the oversize tires. JMO.
There are quite a few posts about tires and the XP's if you search for them.

Sounds like you are activating the torque limiter. The XP tranny has a torque limiter,or "spike load limiter". It's designed to limit the TQ when the machine is jumped and them comes back down to the ground under power. It is intended to reduce or prevent driveline damage but some guys with 30" tires and larger have been activating it under wide open throttle.
Before anyone says it..IMO this is not a defect..I haven't heard of it happening with less than a 30" tire..Polaris has no duty to test or change a design to accomodate tires larger than stock..like I said though, guys runnning 28's ect are not seeing this.
But from what I have heard they have worked with at least one dealer to come up with a solution. I'm pretty sure one of the dealers down in GA that builds alot mud machines has came up with a way to shim the limiter tighter to prevent it from activating with larger tires..
