Default 5W30 for Polaris Transmission Oil???

Just wanted to check if I could use a Premium Synthetic 5W30 oil (such as Mobil 1 or Royal Purple) in place of "Polaris Premium Synthetic Gearcase Lubricant" that my manual calls for. Now I know lots of you will say just use what my manual calls for, etc. But I'm just asking if they are basically the same thing? I called a couple of local dealers, and talked to their service guys; a couple told me that they couldn't recommend anything other than Polaris fluids... big surprise there, but one or two did tell me that the Polaris Transmission fluid and a Synthetic 5W30 are the same thing. What are your thoughts on the subject?

No, the tranny requires Chain case oil or gear oil which is generally rated at 75W90 or there abouts. Motor oil weight is just to thin.

I use the same Shell synthetic chain case oil I use in my sled's chaincase, Like the Polaris tranny oil it does not state the weight on the label.

But just buy looking at it you can tell its a thicker gear oil weight, it also smells nothing like a motor oil.

NO, the fluid he is talking about is for the tranny, which uses the AGL fluid and it is as thin as water almost. Probably just worth putting the Polaris oil in there for the extra buck just so you know it is the correct oil.

You maybe right, 75W90 seem to thick for cold weather use, Chaicase oil are recommended for ATV and Sleds Chaincases, but if you try to look up the weights a chaincase oil is you will never find it. You just get info for like this.

Amsoil Chaincase oil info

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>AMSOIL Series 2000 Chaincase Oil provides superior protection and performance for enclosed chains. Ideal for snowmobiles, ATVs and general equipment. Extreme pressure additives provide extra wear protection. Extends chain life repels water, and inhibits rust, oxidation and foam. Superior low temperature starting, performance and protection.</end quote></div>

Sure does not tell you much.

But like I saild if you ever used a chaincase oil it does not look feel.or smell like a motor oil in anyway.

i know for sure the rear end takes 80-90 gear oil at 5 oz. my 2 bikes take something else thats alot thinner then gear oil and takes 15 and 20 ozs of fluid for the tranny. since i only use polaris oil i couldnt tell you what to use for a sub. but have heard peole using syn tranny fluid. i would say oil as suggested would not be good enough and would cause issues down the road. just my .02

Ok, just triple checked with my local service guy at the Polaris Dealer, and two different guys there said that 5W30 would be fine to run in the transmission. So then I called Royal Purple offices and talked to a tech, I told him my manual states to run "Polaris Premium Synthetic Gearcase Lubricant" in my tranny, do you have anything for equilvant? He said, and I quote "Yeah, I believe it's weighted at 10W30... that would be fine to use, or even 10W40, since we are down here in Texas." Are these people wrong, or will I be ok? (Just looking for someone input - thanks to the guys who have already contributed)
