What year and model do you have and what are the symptoms? These are 3 year old posts,some of the guys may be not be around? OPT

 

I have a 2003 polaris trailblazer 400. My problem is that coolant is shooting out of the red cap because its boiling. I have turned it off and the fan did not kick on. So, I jumped the fan and it came on. I'm hoping its just a sensor. Also, my battery won't stay charged and I have no clue as to what it might be. Suggestions would be a big help. Thank you.

 

Start with the battery first!! Make sure when running it shows at least 13.5-14.5 volts at the battery at idle with a volt meter. If it's charging ok ,then could be the battery itself needs replacing. Any auto store can load test it to see if it has a bad cell. If it's not charging above battery voltage,then could be a regulator/rectifier problem(check under the front panel that all wires going to the reg/rectifier are plugged in) Any way the radiator sensor and fan have to have a constant 12 volts for proper fan operation.Battery could be all that's wrong?? Check all this out first. If all is "ok" then could be a radiator sensor problem. PLUS if you have added coolant to the radiator you must bleed the air out of the system or it can boil over also. There is a 10 mm bleed screw at the back of the head close to the temp sender that has to be opened to let any trapped air escape. This can cause over heating also before the fan has a chance to kick in. OPT

 

Polaris quit putting the thermal switch in the rad in 2004 I think,now the fan is operated by the thermostate or something like that located on the side of the motor,s cylinder.

 

2003 Trail Blazer 400 is the last year model of this two stroke engine and still had the sensor(4010161) on the radiator and the temp sensor at the back of the head. The 400 two stroke engine had a good run from 1994 to 2003.
