!995 Polaris Sportsman 400
Need some help, I just got a 1995 Polaris Sportsman 400 thats been sitting for about three years in my parents garage. When I turn the gas on it just starts flooding out of the breather tubes from the curb when its not started but when I start it it stops. Then it idles fine but when I give it some throttle it just dies. It sounds like I can hear something shorting out when its idling. I think its the electronic throttle control but dont know for sure. Does anybody have any insight to this? Do these years of polaris' have problems with electrics?
I know how to work on things when I know whats wrong with them so I want to try and fix it myself so if you know about a dummy guide let me know.

welcome to the forum. first thing is it sounds like maybe you have a float issue being open if its letting gas pour in. you have to make sure the etc is set correctly as it will try to shut the bike down if not. you should have about 1/8" play in the throttle cable off the thumb control. make sure the contacts are working and arent all corroded from sitting and put some dielectric grease on the connections. just a couple of ideas.
