Bought this 500 about a year ago at auction, kind of regret it. I could tell it had been rolled hard before I bought it , but sounded OK.

It is a 1999, if that makes any difference. Before I bought it I noticed the cover over the drive sheave was starting to rub through. I thought, OK, maybe no big deal. WRONG. The cover is now worn through, belt never lasts long.

With the cover off, and new belt on, as soon as I accelerate I can see the front pulley off the crankshaft shifts quite a ways towards the rear. That explains the belt wear and the cover damage. But, WHY?

Motor mounts? Crankshaft play? Primary clutch issues? If too expensive too repair, will sell for parts. Any ideas would help. Thank you all in advance. DOUG

Check the front motor mount, not to hard to replace.

it has to be the engien mounts as if the crank moved like that the seal would be gone and wouldnt run. as he stated, not hard or expensive to fix, but you will need a new cover and suggest buying a newer style that doesnt warp as much.

I think you are both right, it does appear the motor mount is shifting to the left at least 1/2 inch when I put the front tires against a wall and gently goose it.

I am a little confused as to correct part number for the mount. I told you 1999, it is a 1998 built late 97. The VIN on the frame kind of runs together, won't really match up to Polaris web site, but the mounts all appear to be the same regardless of the variations.

The parts sheet shows the mount as being horizontal through a vertical bracket. My front mount is vertical and goes through the frame. I am under the assumption that the correct mount is 3110044, which is replaced by 3022071.

The cover is now 5433542, which replaces the old number. I assume that is the cover you are telling me to get.

Thank you for your help! DOUG
