As long as your battery is in good shape and you use a tender when not in use your be fine . I have a 500 with recoil back-up but in 3000 miles I've never needed to use the recoil . It all comes down to how you maintain the battery when I park the beast it gets plugged in . Just like a 4 stroke sled no recoil just battery if you maintain the battery and use a tender ( a good one ) your be fine plus you should be-able to tell when the battery is getting weak . A dead battery should never be a issue if you maintain it - Period .

Ditto on the last post! Keep it clean and the battery charged and you will be fine. No recoil on the big twins because you'd have to be superhuman to pull-start one! I'm on my third big twin Sportsman and spent many days up to the racks in mud with no issues.

thats why the twins have bigger batteries for sure and agree w/ my second 800 and having it sit for 5 months w/out starting it or a tender(which wouldnt hurt to have one) on it mines starts in about 3 seconds. worse case, get a small set of booster cables to take w/ you on the trail to use to boost off someone elses bike if need be. imo
