Default AWD problems

ok i changed the fluid in the front end on my X2 and i still have no awd. It is engaging when i let off of the throttle but it will not engage any other time. Anybody know what this is? It is an 07 500 EFI with ADC.

Unplug the plug in at the diff and see if there is 12 volts going to it, if it has power its probably the cage in the diff is broke.

I just can't see how the cage would be broken, there has been no sign of a mechanical failure. There was no debris in the fluid when i drained it and it never made a hint of anything breaking. The awd went from working to kinda working to doing what it is doing now.

A little more info- the indicator that it is in AWD is coming on and it drives fine, no noise and it is smooth. I will check the voltage when i get in and see what i get.

Read some of the broken roller cage threads on this site using the "search" option. There is not much warnning or any grinding noise, some had AWD in revese but not in forward because of a bad roller cage, which is odd to me.

OK assuming it is the dreaded cage what am i getting into as far as replacing it goes. I am a Caterpillar lift tech so i have tools and knowledge, should i be worried about this? also should look for a metal one to replace it with or maybe the John Deere parts? thanx!

Its cake. Buy the John Deere parts. If you have a manual even better.

check the coil resistance 22.8 - 25.2 ohms

torque cover bolts 14 ftlbs

torque mount bots 30 ftlbs
