clutch bottons on primary clutch
#1
how do i go about checking the bottons on the primary clutch. i have that infamous ticking sound on my scrmabler 400. i just went and put a wiseco in it thinking it would take care of the problem, but its still there.
i guess checking the clutch bottons after replaceing the piston would be the bass ackwards way of doing things, but i planned putting a wiseco in the spring anyhow. its worth the $150 (with gaskets, shipping, etc.)
i would like to check the clutch bottons on the primary clutch. how do i go about doing this? the only thing i have done is changed the primary clutch spring. i'm not really all that familiar with the clutch on my scrambler yet. how will i be able to tell if they are worn? are there better aftermarket setups?

I believe you should be able to see them by just taking the clutch cover off. Me and a buddy took his off after about four months. I couldn't beleive how worn down they were. They were worn better than 50% down, and after only a couple of months. I immediately had the aluminum buttons installed on mine.

BigDevil,
The buttons are within the secondary clutch (the back clutch)
YOu take out the center bolt and slide the secondary off. There is a circlip that you remove and out pops the helix, and spring. Remember that its under a pretty stiff load, so keep it mashed in a best as possible while taking the circlip out. Remove the helix and spring and all thats left are the buttons. If they are worn, I will suggest replacing them w/ HPD SS button kit. If they are demolished and the helix has torn into your secondary housing, then buy a roller.
When putting the helix back in, be sure to turn it 1/4-1/3 of a turn. NO more, NO less.
