If you have cover off and are able to check drive clutch,if there is play back and forth on spyder where the 6 buttons glide, then time to replace! If allowed to wear down clutch will start making a rattling noise and worst case when really worn will sound like a rod going out or sound like a diesel!

depending if your secondary has a roller clutch vs. having the older style w/ the clutch buttons(sometimes called shoes), the rollers last pretty much a long time and buttons will wear out depending on how much wear in tear like using high range when working it hard instead of low range. opt is refering to the primary clutch buttons that make the rattleing sound. if you have the old style secondary buttons and they wear out it will greatly effect take off and top end perfrocing making it seem to have no power. imo.

What does it take to replace them? Can I back yard it or does it have to go to the dealer?

Thanks,
Kevin

You have to have a clutch spyder tool to loosen up the clutch so you can spin off the spyder. Unless you plan on doing all your own work, just pull clutch with Polaris or equivalent puller and let dealer replace the 6 buttons. On secondary NON EBS or EBS clutches you can replace the ramp buttons or rollers at home, but a manual recommended.

I've done all the work so far....I'm not afraid to do it and I like the idea of controlling when it's done instead of waiting for it. How much are the tools? Do you think it's worth the investment? If it's gonna be about the same price at least I own the tools then.
