Default 07 sportsman 800 EFI engine brake- transmission?

This is my first posting so be gentle...2007 Sportsman 800 EFI with less then 12 miles..12.. and only 2.5 hours on it... Since last week when I bought it, (it was a leftover), I have been getting a bang everytime I let off the throttle then hit again. The only thing I can compare the sound to is a u-joint on a drive shaft of a truck, and it acts the same too... I have checked the u-joints on the atv and they are all perfect. I took the bike out 1 time for a while and went through some big puddles and mud and got a little slippage of the belt when it was wet and I was hoping maybe the belt is just trying to wear in to its own spot?? It seems to be the same as before.. this does not seem normal. is there a break in period of noise I should wait on??
When I was coming down a steep hill with very loose rocks and dirt, the engine break system kept trying to slow me down,so then everytime the tires would grip then slip a little, there would be that bang in the transmission area. this will happen constantly everytime the tires slipped then gripped... I stopped halfway down the hill and put it in neutral, and coasted further down the hill and it was silent so I know its not suspension, or anything other then drivetrain....I hate bringing anything to the dealership...I don't trust most of them unfortunatly, but this may be the only option.. Could it be the belt adjustment??

You probably are experiencing "driveline lash" the noise that you hear in the trans area and drive shaft area when you let off and also when you throttle up! This contrary to what a lot of people think is"normal" althought frustrating. the slap, popping noise is more prominant in the 700 and 800 engine because of their torque versus the 500 engines, although they can do it also! You have to consider that power from the engine to the clutches, then to the trans, then to to the driveshafts, somewhere along the line then is a degree of slack that is amplified at the end(trans and driveshafts) There is no adjustment on the belt other than alignment of clutches. I know its irritating ,but its a trait of the design..Most people get used to it and dont let it spoil their fun of the machine. Good luck OPT

I also have an '07 SP 800. Mine makes the same noise you talked about, and has done it since day 1. I have learned to live with it and pay it no attention now. Just yesterday I had it out in some VERY hilly terrain and my friend heard it, but I did not notice.

Enjoy the machine! It is a nice one.

As an automotive tech for the last 10 years, I know what your saying old Polaris tech...I just can't believe this is normal.. I appreciate your quick responce and thank you dcso3009 for your input too!! I guess I'll have to learn to ignore it... To be honest, I also have a 1986 Quadracer 250R and its getting old to say the least, but the rattles and clanging were starting to get REAL old, SO, I went with a brand new atv and this is what I get....great...
The sway bar link bushings are wiped too, from the dry rot...nice!!
