Default 2006 sportsman 500 EFI charging problem Help

Just put a new battery in my 500 EFI and checked voltage at the battery and it was 12.8 volts after charging the battery up. Ran the RPMS up to 3000 to 4000 while leaving my voltage tester on the battery and it did not go up at all. Doesn't seem like it is charging properly, does the battery have to discharge lower then 12 volts before it starts charging? I thought I would see about 14.5 volts on the meter but I did not.

I bet if you turn your lights on you will most likely see higher voltage. If it don't need it you won't see higher than what you have for voltage the only thing on is the tailight and how long did you trickel charge your batterie or did it come pre charged?

Thumbs down charging problem

I did charge the battery for about 6 hours I have tried turning on the lights but still do not see any increase on my volt meter tonight I am going to try and discharge the battery by leaving the lights on for a while and then starting it up and check it with the volt meter. I don't know at what point the charging system starts up it may have to discharge first .

You should always have 13-15 vdc when running whether there is an electrical load on it or not. The output amps are what changes not the output voltage.

I have checked the battery voltage with the key off and it is over 12.6 volts, I start it up and put the volt meter on the battery and it does not go up to 13 volts stays in the 12 volt range.

Voltage regulator bad or bad connections, take the battery cables off the selenoid and see if the nuts behind them are tight, Ive seen this happen a couple times.
