Default Engine Hot and leak

Ok so the 600 twin was being run at 80 klm for a while and then the "engine hot" started to flash so I came home and I saw a drip, it was coolant coming from the little res with the red cap. How come it leaks when its hot?

thanks

My buddy had a SP700 that was boiling over at the res bottle also and it looked like the rad was clean to us, but it turned out the "hard to see" top part was baked/clogged with old mud. After a GOOD cleaning of the rad the ATV ran great again.
