I'm stumped. I have a 2001 polaris sportsman 90 that runs great but won't start when I use the electric start option. I just put on a new stator and CDI. The battery is fully charged and turns the engine very quickly.

Here's the problem.....When I use the electric start there seems to be a very weak spark and the engine won't start. When I use the kick start, the quad starts on the first kick and runs great. What am I missing here? What should I check? Do you think it is a ground problem?

Brad: When you say that if you use the electric starter there "seems" to be weak spark - have you visibly checked the strength of the spark with the plug out and leaned on the cylinder head or ?? I would see if there actually IS any difference in the spark - by pulling the plug, put it in the HT lead, lean it SOLIDLY on the head, then hit the electric starter and see if you get a nice, bright blue spark (you DON'T want to see a weak, yellowish spark) - then kick it over and see what the spark looks like. If it's not the same, start checking any electrical connections.

 

I was wondering if you ever found out what your problem was. I'm having the exact same issue.
