HOwdie,

I've got a buddy who has busted his tranny case. The warranty is OUT!

We are going to do the work, and I was wondering:

1) HOw much trouble is the Job?

2) "Breifly", What all is involved?

3) I need a round-about estimate on how much a Right side tranny case costs$$$$$$?

4) How long does the job take.

I feel pretty comperable w/ doing this Job. I also have the Polaris Scrambler shop manual to help things along.

I really need and guess at $$$ costs.

Thanks,

EC

RH. trans case is $179. Looked up "99" 4x4 with front shaft drive. If its not that one price could be different. Need more info.

My buddy broke his case too.
He has a 400 scrambler and took it for a jump and stuffed the chain after it snapped into the tranny case. Its a common problem if you have a worn or overtightend chain.
Anyway its an easy job to fix.
Remove the tranny separate the cases and get the thing welded .the case is very thin right were it needs to be thickest.Oh well maybe theres a reason for that hence you might not have to fix or buy a new case if it were thicker.Take it to a good weld shop theyll be able to fix it no problem.
Hope this helps you out.

ChopperBill,

Thanks for the $$$ quote. Just to be sure, He has an 00' SC 500 4x4.

EnglishMatt,

I'll be sure to present your idea to my friend. I have'nt seen the break yet, so I cant give you any details. I am guessing that It could only be welded if it were a crack and not a bust?

Thanks,

EC

Please respond if you've ever performed this job before.

My pal is really in a bind and I feel that I should help in some way.

Thanks,

EC

Quadbuster,

I bought my '96 Scrambler with a blown tranny. I got it cheap because of this. With the help of a friend, we removed the tranny, rebuilt it, and had it back in and running in just one long day. If the procedure is similar 400 vs 500, here I go:

1. Remove rear chain, seat, and any plastic shields.
2. Remove airbox and carb.
3. Remove skid plate under the machine.
4. Take swingarm bolts out. On my machine they thread into the tranny case.
5. Unbolt the tranny and remove from frame. Must be tilted some crazy way to clear.

If I forgot anything I'm sorry. It has been a year since I did this. It worked out fine. Kinda a pain in the butt. Good luck.
