Polaris 800 & 850 top end?
Been a good while since I've been on this forum, though I was on pretty heavy from 97-04. Haven't paid much attention to quads in general for a while. Seems as if most manufacturers have gone nuts with cc's anymore. The HP numbers are ridiculous compared to 5-6 years ago. How fast do this big bores go now on top end? I wondered if they were just ridiculous fast, or all governed down as usual but got there in a hurry. I'm not looking to buy or anything, just curious to know.

Not sure, but 70 rather easy I guess. The most important part for most though is getting to speeds like 45-50 very fast. They also can handle much bigger tires. I remember when people were putting 28" Outlaws on Sportsman 500's. They could barely make it down the trails at a respectable pace.

Yep I think they have speed limiters on most of them, also they are geared more for low end and acceleration so they top out for the most part RPM wise anyway.. The Polaris is a mechanical spacer in the primary clutch. Like Roofer said they will hit 70 pretty easily...fastest I have heard of out of a stock 850 is around 80,mine never saw over 74-75.

My son passed me while we were cruising at 50 on a straight dirt road last week, he was riding my '02 500 with 4000 miles on it and doing 60. I passed him riding our XP850 with my wife also on the quad with me, a total of around 450 pounds, at over 70 which is the last time I took my eyes off the road but we were still gaining speed. With that much weight on you can still feel the surge even above 60 MPH when you press the throttle down.

My 850 has seen 76 mph...But for some reason while out riding today all i could get was 71...I had it doing 76 at about 250 miles. It now has almost 600.This was on the exact same stretch I always open it up to obtain top speed..Maybe my tire pressure was down some or I have some belt slippage..Either way 70 is as fast as you need to go on a 4 x 4 imo...I like to go fron 15 to 50 in a hurry though..
